Dr Roger Tian graduated in 1996 from the National University of Singapore.  After obtaining his postgraduate qualifications and training in surgery, he subsequently trained and obtained his Masters of Sports Medicine from the University of New South Wales in 2007.  He is also the first sports physician in Singapore to complete the local advanced subspecialty training program in Sports Medicine.

He has been working at the Changi Sports Medicine Centre (CSMC) in Changi General Hospital since 2005. Besides injury prevention and treatment, his interests include performance optimisation through sports science and nutrition, and the role of regular physical activity in reducing lifestyle disease.  He has also participated in the care of the country’s elite athletes while working at the Sports Medicine Research Centre of the Singapore Sports Council.  He has also contributed his expertise as a committee member of the Sports Medicine Association of Singapore and as a resource panel member of the MCYS Sports Safety Committee.  He currently sits on the Ministry of Education’s Healthy Youth Committee, Changi General Hospital’s Continuing Medical Education Committee, and the Human Research Ethics Committee of the Singapore Sports Institute.  He has published his research in multiple peer reviewed journals, and is currently a member on the advisory panel of several local publications.

Dr Tian served as medical director for the OSIM International Triathlon in 2007 & 2008, and has also provided medical cover for sports such as S-League/national team matches, triathlons, netball, HSBC Wakeboard World Cup, and the Aviva Singapore Open Badminton Championships.

During his university days, he competed in canoeing and canoe-polo, and was also a canoeing instructor with the People’s Association.  He was also active in various sports including badminton, tennis, volleyball, sailing, trekking, yoga and pilates.  His current sports interests include distance running and multi-disciplinary endurance events.
