Dr. Lai Hwee Yee obtained her basic medical degree from the National University of Singapore (NUS). She started her medical career with a wide range of postings in numerous hospital departments including stints at the inpatient Dove Park Hospice and its home care arm known as Hospice Care Association. Subsequently, Dr. Lai began taking on medical evacuation assignments with the various medical evacuation and assistance companies. That led her to working in Cambodia in a newly set up Singaporean-owned private clinic. In almost a decade in Cambodia, other than escorting in evacuations, Dr. Lai served as the panel of doctors for numerous organizations and companies, and also as a United Nations-designated physician. In that, she began to see a distinct set of chronic health issues arising from two extremes – a general lack of nutritious diet, and an over abundance of which. To better able help her patients with their ailments, Dr. Lai began to research and read avidly on the subject of nutritional medicine and supplements. Many of her patients have to date, benefitted immensely on her self-acquired knowledge that is outside of her medical school subjects. Her embarked journey to learn more of basic nutrition for optimal health and her aspiration to help disseminate such knowledge to patients that most needed them again lead to her decision to take on this Cancer After Care Clinic. She firmly believes that the right nutritional intake will go a long way to help cancer patients in their recovery and to reduce their chances of recurrence, because the body is thus better able to fight off cancer cells.
