Dr Jason Chia graduated from the National University of Singapore (1998) and obtained his post-graduate specialist degree, Masters of Sports Medicine from Australia (2002). He is a Consultant Sports Physician at the Singapore Sports Medicine Centre, and the Changi Sports Medicine Centre, where he is involved with sports injury management, fitness testing and exercise prescription, weight management extracorporeal shockwave therapy as well as gait analysis. He has also been involved in the writing and publication of a handbook for exercise prescription for general practitioners (Prescribing Exercise : A Handbook for Medical Practitioners) and is the past President of the Sports Medicine Association of Singapore (2006-2007). Dr Chia has also served as the Honorary Secretary (2005-2006), Vice President Sports Medicine Association of Singapore (2006-2007) and the Secretary of the Sports Medicine Special Interest Group in 2004. In addition, he has engaged in clinical research (extracorporeal shockwave therapy) as well as biomechanical research. He previously worked in Singapore Sports Council (Sports Medicine and Research Center) (2001 – 2004) where he provided medical care for the national athletes and has served as the team physician for the national teams in Asian Games and SEA Games. Dr Chia is the Programme Coordinator for the Sports Medicine training programme and serves in the medical committee of the Singapore Silat Federation, in the Obesity Sub Workgroup (adolescent Blueprint) of the Health Promotion Board and was a guest editor for the Annals Academy of Medicine. Dr Chia is interested in multi-discipline endurance sports and has completed the Ironman triathlon and now runs marathons as a hobby. As an extension of his interest in endurance sports, his professional interest extents to exercise testing for performance enhancement and is in charge of the exercise testing service in Changi Sports Medicine Centre. In addition, he has been the medical Director for sports events including the OSIM triathlon (2005-2008), the Aviva Ironman (2007) and the HSBC wakeboarding championship (2005 to 2007).
